Heydar Aliyev International Airport is one of the six international airports serving Azerbaijan. Formerly, the airport was called Bina International Airport by the name of a suburb in Baku. In 2004, Baku’s airport was renamed and changed its airport code from BAK to GYD in honor of former Azerbaijan President Heydar Aliyev, sometimes spelled GaYDar Aliev. The airport is located 20 kilometers northeast of Baku. It is the busiest airport in Azerbaijan and of the Caucasus.
