Tamale Airport is an airport serving Tamale, a town in the Northern Region of Ghana. The Tamale Airport was founded as a main advanced operational base for troops during the World War 2. The landing strip was acquired at Nyohene, some two miles west of Tamale. The Tamale Airport has now been upgraded to the status of an international airport, with all the necessary facilities. It gained international status in December 2008.
