Baghdad International Airport is Iraq's largest airport, located in a suburb about 16 km west of downtown Baghdad in the Baghdad Governorate. It is the home base for Iraq's national airline, Iraqi Airways. Baghdad Airport was formerly named after Saddam Hussein and used the code SDA. When the named changed, its airport code changed to BGW, which previously referred to all BaGhdad airports. The ‘W’ is a filler letter.
